MG Nu Gundam ver.Ka (commission)

The Nu Gundam ver.Ka has always been one of those kits which I’ve held in very high regard, and it’s only after this long that someone commissioned me that I finally had an excuse to build it. At 55 hours and 621 parts, this felt like the heaviest build I’ve done in a while and I was definitively getting over it by the end of the project.

Anyway, the issues with this kit are pretty well documented, it’s got those terrible emotion manipulator hands for starters and the funnels stick to each other with the flimsiest of connection points. Despite this I feel if you want the definitive looking Nu Gundam, look no further, but the RG does pose significantly better.

Being for a commission, I did not pose the kit so the client could enjoy the build in pristine condition.

Painting

To try something a little different, I ended up using “Yuupa White” for this build, which is a 50/50 mix of Mr Color 311 and Mr Color 316. Mr Color’s normal non-GX range tends to be a bit too thin for my liking out of the bottle and so I did have some slight issues getting the thinning ratio correct.

White – Mr Color 311 (50%) + Mr Color 316 (50%) base coat, followed by GX Cool White for shading

Light Grey – Mr Color 306 + (Mr Color 311 (50%) + Mr Color 316 (50%)) base coat, then added a bit of Mr Color 311 (50%) + Mr Color 316 (50%) base coat + GX White for shading

Dark Blue – Mr Color Russian Aircraft Blue 2 + Mr Color Blue FS 15044 + (bit of Blue and Titans Blue 2), add White for shading, then blend back with original mix

Yellow – White primer, Orange preshade, Starter white, Orange + Orange yellow coat, then yellow + orange yellow light coat

Red – White primer, Shine red coat, GX Yellow highlight then GX Rouge coat.
